Memory Care Guide
What is Memory Care?
Your solution to personalized memory care.
Memory care is a type of long-term specialized care designed to provide a safe, structured, and secure environment to meet the unique needs of seniors who have Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. Some assisted living communities offer memory care programs, but there are also standalone communities exclusively dedicated to seniors with some form of dementia.
Just like at assisted living facilities, the nurturing staff at mental care communities provide meals and assist residents with personal care tasks. But, in memory care programs, the staff are trained and knowledgeable to handle and manage both common and challenging situations involving dementia patients. Memory care programs check in with residents more regularly and provide additional structure and support to help them navigate their day.
Memory Care Services
Using uniquely designed living spaces and programming, memory care communities aim to keep seniors with memory loss safe while also enabling them to enjoy their best quality of life. Communities offer activities designed to help residents work on their cognitive abilities while also getting to enjoy passions and hobbies. Activities can be anything from fitness classes and music performances to resident socials and more.
Choosing a memory care community can be emotionally exhausting, but the more you know what to expect and how best to prepare, the more it can make the journey feel less daunting. You don’t have to go through this alone. Senior Placement Group will offer you guidance and information on what you need to know about memory care, from what services are available, typical costs, and more.
FAQs for Memory Care
Memory care services in assisted living facilities are specialized care for seniors who are experiencing memory loss. Memory care staff are highly trained in assisting and caring for individuals who have dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.
Some assisted living communities do provide memory care services, while other facilities are exclusively for seniors with dementia. Deciding between a memory care assisted living facility or a standalone memory care facility offers the same benefits, with the exception that seniors in an assisted living facility that offers memory care services would be around other community members who are not experiencing dementia.
Memory care services have the goal of providing quality care to each resident. Memory care services include housing, planned activities, meals, and certified staff who are highly trained in caring for individuals with memory loss.
Some insurance policies do cover specific long-terms costs associated with memory care communities, but this will depend on your particular policy. Medicare typically does not cover the costs of memory care. Many individuals choosing a memory care assisted living facility will either pay out of pocket or through a long-term care plan.

Here's How it Works
Free Assessment from a Senior Living Advisor
During your initial call, a Senior Placement Advisor will conduct a brief assessment to get to know you, your loved one, your situation, and needs. This information will help us determine what care level and communities may be an option.
We’ll listen to your concerns and provide real advice tailored to your loved one’s unique circumstances. Our goal is to ensure you find the community that makes them feel most at home.
Review Senior Housing Care Solutions
Once we fully understand your needs and wants, we’ll present you with a shortlist of possible solutions. This list will contain the appropriate information you need to make an educated decision about these next steps. We only recommend properly licensed facilities that have passed our strict review.
Tour Senior Housing Care Communities
Once you’ve reviewed the list and have selected some potential options, we’ll personally escort you on a tour of selected communities.
From there, we’ll guide you through the entire process of transitioning your loved one into a community—including helping with paperwork, gathering all the relevant information, and the logistics of moving your loved one from their home to the community. We are here to hold your hand every step of the way.
Decide On The Best Senior Housing Fit
After on-site visits to the senior facilities, we’ll be there to answer any follow-up questions that might come up. Once you are ready to make your decision, we’ll facilitate the move-in process with the community of your choice. And again, our service is completely free, there is no charge to work with a Senior Living Advisor.
